Temples of Prayer is an on-going investigation into the appropriation of the existing built environment by new and emerging churches and religious faiths in Ireland.

They reflect a diverse range of denominations and beliefs. Made up in the majority of African, Muslim and converted white faiths, they from the basis and face of the new and emergence of spirituality in this changing and globalised state.

 

Beyond the typical monumental appearance and proliferation of both the Catholic and Protestant churches in the land these churches weather temporary or permanent occupy spaces that were never designed for its specific purpose. Like warehouses, schools, private houses, hotels and schools. They have become sacred spaces through chance, need and practicality, in the most banal and unexpected of public spaces.
